So you opened 1v1.LOL, got thrown into a match, and instantly got ramped-rushed, wall-edited, and shotgunned into next week. Welcome to the game. Everyone's first match looks like that, and then you learn two or three tricks and suddenly you're the one doing the shotgunning.
This guide covers everything you need to stop dying and start winning. No fluff, no essay-length paragraphs. Just the stuff that actually matters.
What Is 1v1.LOL?
1v1.LOL is a browser-based build-and-shoot game. Think Fortnite's endgame, but stripped down to pure skill-on-skill duels with no loot, no storm, no nonsense. You spawn with a shotgun, a rifle, and the ability to place walls, ramps, and floors. The first person to land the kill wins the round.
It's free, runs in your browser (no downloads), and has been a staple of unblocked-games-at-school culture for years. The core loop is simple: build cover, push your opponent, edit through walls, land the shot. Easy to learn, impossible to master.

Building Basics
Building is the heart of this game. If you just stand in the open and shoot, you will lose to anyone who builds even a single wall. Here's what you need to know on day one:
The Wall
Your best friend. Place a wall between you and your opponent the moment you take damage. It buys you time to heal, reload, or reposition. Spam Q like your life depends on it, because it does.
The Ramp Push
The simplest offensive move in the game: build a ramp forward, run up it, build another ramp, keep going. You gain height advantage and close the distance at the same time. When you're on top, drop down and shotgun your opponent.
The Box (Turtle)
Four walls and a roof around you = instant safe zone. Use it when you're low on HP, need to reload, or just need a second to think. Also called "turtling." Everyone does it. It's fine.
The 90
The move every sweat uses. Place a wall, turn 90 degrees, place a ramp, turn again, place a wall. You stack height fast and protect yourself on the way up. Takes practice. Don't worry if it feels awkward for the first 50 games.
If an opponent ramp-rushes you, shoot the bottom of their ramp. The whole structure collapses and you get the high ground instead. Classic counter.
Editing: The Actual Skill Gap
Editing is what separates casuals from sweats. When you edit a wall, you temporarily open a window through it, long enough to shoot through and then close back up. If you've ever been confused about how someone killed you through a wall, this is how.
The flow:
- Look at one of your own walls (you can't edit enemy walls)
- Press G to enter edit mode
- Click the tiles you want to remove (usually the middle-bottom two)
- Press G again to apply
- Shoot through the gap
- Place a fresh wall to close up
It sounds slow. Once you've done it a few hundred times, it takes less than a second. Yes, you'll need to practice.
Game Modes Overview
Don't try them all at once. Here's what to play when:
1v1 Clash: Start Here
One opponent, no teams, no zone. Perfect for learning the basics without the chaos of multiple enemies. This is where you should spend your first 20+ games.
Battle Royale: The Main Event
Drop in, loot, build, outlast everyone as the zone closes. The full-size mode most players live in. More to juggle than a duel, rotations, materials, height, but the wins feel earned.
Zone Wars
Battle-royale-style with a shrinking play zone. Multiple players, you loot materials, manage health, and try to outlast everyone. More complex than 1v1 but very rewarding when you clutch a 1v3.
Bots Practice Match
A real match against bots. Same pacing as a live game, zero pressure. The best place to warm up your build muscles or rehearse something new before taking it into trophies.
Custom Modes
Deathmatch, Zone Wars, BoxFight Big, Zombies and more, playable in a party with friends. That's where the game gets weird and fun.
Tips That Actually Matter for New Players
- Don't stop moving. A stationary target is a dead target. Strafe while shooting, jump mid-fight, confuse the aim.
- Hold angles. If you know an opponent is coming around a corner, pre-aim where their head will be. Don't react, act first.
- Learn to wall-peek. Place a wall, edit a small window, take one shot, close it. You're almost invincible.
- Don't fight on flat ground. If you can, build up or take cover. Open fights favor whoever has better aim, which might not be you yet.
- Use the pickaxe to farm materials. Hit walls, floors, anything. You'll need a lot of mats for big build fights.
- Play warm-up games first. Jump into Aim Trainer or a custom 1v1 for 5 minutes before trying ranked or competitive.
The fastest way to get better is to play against people slightly better than you and try to copy what they do. Lose, learn, repeat.
Common Mistakes New Players Make
- Over-building. You don't need a five-story tower. One wall and a ramp is usually enough.
- Ignoring the shotgun. In close fights, the shotgun is almost always the correct weapon. Switch to it the moment the enemy gets near.
- Panic reloading in the open. Reload behind cover, never in someone's face.
- Staring at your opponent while they shoot you. If you're taking damage, build a wall immediately. Don't think, just press Q.
- Never practicing. Spend 10 minutes a day in Aim Trainer and bot matches. You'll improve faster than anyone who just grinds ranked.
